Low Carbon Refrigeration 19 May 2021 This coming year will see us complete the construction of our new £4.5m low-carbon refrigeration system, which is the first of its kind in Scotland and one of just a handful across Europe, projected to reduce our energy use by up to 80%. We are already making Mackie’s ice cream with over 60% renewable energy generated by our own wind turbines and solar panels -and we exporting 4.5 times as much energy to the grid as we use. We’re looking forward to being 100% self sufficient on renewable Energy. The new spiral freezer can freeze down over 7000 litres per hour -and the efficiency of the new machine – not only helps the environment but we think that the ice cream taste and texture is even better too!
