This year we plan to install a new refrigeration system set to be one of the most sophisticated in Europe. In a £4million project, we’ll replace existing freezing equipment with low carbon, power efficient units run on ammonia - a natural refrigerant gas that poses no threat to the environment- having zero global warming potential. In an innovative combined solution, we will cool Mackie’s ice cream with heat - from a biomass boiler, powered by a sustainable energy source.
We were delighted to win the award for Best Food & Drink Tourism Experience, sponsored by ONE at the North East Scotland Food & Drink Awards 2019 last night – the judges we’re unanimous in their decision awarding the Best Food & Drink Tourism experience to our ice cream parlour Mackie’s 19.2. They were especially impressed with our “quirky products to grab attention, strong use of social media, video content and blogger engagement, they have attracted interest and visitors from all over the globe, putting the north east’s foodie scene firmly on the map.”
